The Florida State Seminoles may just be the surprise package in the highly competitive Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) this upcoming season. As head coach Leonard Hamilton leads his new-look squad onto the court, there is an air of anticipation surrounding the team.
After a commendable second-place finish in the ACC Standings and a run to the Sweet 16 in the 2020-21 season, the Seminoles have struggled to replicate that success in recent years. With finishes no better than eighth in the conference standings since then, Hamilton knows that in order to cement his place among the elite coaches in the ACC, he needs to add another Regular Season or Tournament Title to his resume.
“The ACC may be in for a surprise with FSU’s fresh roster,” Hamilton confidently states, aware of the potential his new recruits bring to the team.
The Seminoles have been stuck in the middle of the pack in the ACC for the last few seasons, finishing eighth in the conference standings in both the 2021-22 and 2023-24 campaigns. However, Hamilton remains a consistent and respected figure in the coaching world, always pushing his players to compete at the highest level.
Despite the recent struggles, there is hope for the Seminoles with the arrival of the 2024 freshman class. Ranked 21st nationally by 247Sports, this group of talented young players brings a fresh energy and skill set to the team. Jalen Crawford and Anastasios Rozakeas, two key recruits not initially listed by 247Sports, are set to make significant contributions in their debut season with the Seminoles.
Crawford, the son of former Seminole Adrian Crawford, has basketball in his blood and will look to leave his mark on the program. Rozakeas, an international prospect from Greece, showcases a unique blend of skills and basketball IQ that could prove vital for FSU’s success.
In addition to the freshman class, the Seminoles have bolstered their roster with several key transfers. Malique Ewin, Jerry Deng, Bostyn Holt, and Justin Thomas are among the new arrivals at FSU, each bringing their own set of skills and experiences to the team.
Ewin, a standout JUCO transfer, brings scoring and rebounding prowess to the Seminoles’ frontcourt. Deng, coming off a promising stint at Hampton, has already shown flashes of scoring dominance. Holt and Thomas add depth and shooting ability to the roster, further strengthening FSU’s chances of making a mark in the ACC this season.
With a blend of youth, experience, and talent, the Seminoles are poised to surprise many in the ACC this season. As Hamilton continues to mold his team into a competitive force, the rest of the conference should be on notice. This may just be the year that Florida State Basketball makes a significant impact in the ACC standings and beyond.
