The Los Angeles Lakers have solidified their training camp roster by welcoming two promising new additions, Quincy Olivari and Kylor Kelley. These young players have been signed to Exhibit 10 Contracts, with the opportunity to potentially secure a spot with the G League’s South Bay Lakers if they are waived. Additionally, they could receive a $75,000 bonus if they spend 60 days with the G League team.
Kelley, a towering 7-foot center, made waves while playing for the Maine Celtics, the Boston Celtics’ G-League affiliate. His impressive stats from the previous season include 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and a league-leading 2.9 blocks per game, all while shooting an impressive 65% from the field. Kelley’s defensive prowess earned him a spot on the All NBA G-League Defensive Team, with a remarkable 105 blocks throughout the season.
As the Lakers’ roster nears capacity, Olivari and Kelley face the challenge of standing out to General Manager Rob Pelinka and head coach JJ Redick. While their spots on the final roster are not guaranteed, there are multiple avenues for them to showcase their talents.
Olivari, known for his scoring ability in college, must work on his shooting consistency and dispel any doubts from his lackluster performances in the Summer League. The Lakers are counting on him to demonstrate his defensive rebounding skills, which were a highlight of his collegiate career as he averaged 4.4 defensive rebounds per game over four years.
Speaking of the new signings, a team spokesperson expressed optimism about Olivari and Kelley, stating, “We believe that both of these players have the potential to make a significant impact on the court and we are excited to see how they perform during training camp.” While the road ahead may be challenging, Olivari and Kelley have a chance to prove their worth and secure a spot with the storied franchise.
