The New York Knicks are currently facing a dilemma at the backup center position, with Jericho Sims emerging as a potential solution. And while Lopez brings valuable skills to the table, including his three-point shooting ability and experience, some question whether he would truly fit in with Thibodeau’s defensive-oriented style of play. “Lopez may not align with Thibodeau’s preferences in terms of defense and physicality,” says a league insider.
In the end, it seems that sticking with Sims as the backup center may be the best course of action for the Knicks. “The team needs a player who fits the traditional mold of a backup center,” concludes an expert. “Someone who can provide strong rebounding, shot-blocking, and rim protection. And most importantly, someone who can seamlessly integrate into Thibodeau’s defensive schemes.”
