In a move that could potentially bolster their roster for the upcoming season, the Denver Nuggets have signed college sharpshooter Spencer Jones to a two-way deal. The news was first reported by Bennett Durango of the Denver Post, who confirmed that the undrafted Stanford forward has agreed to join the team.
Jones, who recently completed five seasons with the Stanford Cardinal, took advantage of an extra year of eligibility granted due to COVID-19. During his time at Stanford from 2019-20 to 2023-24, Jones made a significant impact as a starter, making 139 starts in his 146 college appearances and solidifying his place atop the all-time Stanford leaderboard.
Known for his accurate three-point shooting, Jones connected on 39.7% of his attempts from beyond the arc over the span of five years. He showcased his sharpshooting abilities by hitting over 40% from three-point range in two seasons, with percentages of 43.1% in 2019-20 and 40.9% in 2023-24. In total, Jones made 315 three-pointers during his college career, setting a new record for the most treys made by a Stanford player.
During his final season at Stanford, Jones put up impressive numbers, averaging 11.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game while shooting 40.9% from three-point range. Despite his success from beyond the arc, Jones struggled with his free throw shooting, making just 64.5% of his attempts, a stark contrast to his previous seasons where he shot closer to 75% from the charity stripe.
With the addition of Jones, the Nuggets now have a full roster of three players on two-way contracts, joining fellow undrafted rookies Trey Alexander from Creighton and PJ Hall from Clemson. This move solidifies the team’s plans for the 2024-25 season as they look to build on their success from previous years.
